Unquestioning Faith
September 22, 2007 – 9:56 pmSo Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. Matthew 21:21 (NKJV)
Unquestioning Faith:
“Wait just a minute God; You want me to do WHAT?”
Of all the amazing stories of faith presented in the Bible, one that frequently hits home is the story of Gideon. In Judges 6: 36-37, God indulges one of Gideon’s tests by only making the wool wet with dew and not the threshing floor. Gideon is questioning whether God will really do what He says He will do and is asking God to prove Himself. All too often, this is how we respond to God’s will for us, “God if this is really what you want me to do, then make this happen, and I’ll know”. Why are we sometimes so hesitant to follow Him?
Think of Noah, what would have happened to Noah’s family if he had hesitated to build the ark? Noah’s unquestioning faith saved his family from certain death.
As a child of God, trusting and having complete faith in Him is easily related to an earthly parent asking a child to trust and obey him. The strength of my love for my children helps me to understand the strength of God’s love for us. Even though my abilities are limited, I would do everything in my power to protect my child. What does that say then of our God who is all powerful and has unlimited abilities? How could we not trust Him?
My children are always required to obey my direction without question because a moment’s hesitation could put them in danger. The same is true of God’s direction to us but on such a larger scale. I can only see danger that is evident in my immediate surroundings but God is all knowing and will protect us from all things seen and unseen. Our hesitation to follow His direction could truly keep us from something wonderful or place us in a situation of true danger.
Father, I praise you because you are all knowing and your powers are limitless. I thank you God for protecting and guiding me every day. Please help me Lord to always seek your will and to always obey and trust in You without question. In the precious name of Christ I pray, Amen.
In His Service,
